Beachmere will celebrate its Sesquicentenary in 2020 and, Beachmere Area Network Group’s (BANG) Sesquicentenary Committee has a number of activities planned for the weekend of    15 – 17 May 2020.

These activities include the Gala Book Launch for the book we are producing “Beachmere – Then & Now”; children’s and family activities on the beach on Saturday morning including reproducing Beachmere’s famous Sand Garden competition; a Bush Dance on Saturday evening and a High Tea / Tea Dance on the Sunday afternoon.

The Book entitled “Beachmere – Then and Now” is a compilation of 150 stories providing a chronological history of events and happenings in Beachmere, sourced from previous publications and gathered from personal interviews with residents and citizens of Beachmere over the years. This is a historical resource that will be treasured by families for many years to come.

A quilt will be made, once a traditional manner of recording events, which will then be promoted and shown throughout the community.

It is planned that a stone and plaque will be erected in Clayton Park acknowledging the local indigenous history of the Gubbi Gubbi peoples.

Beachmere’s Sesquicentenary Celebration will be designed and produced to include as many residents and community groups as possible. It will aim to be all encompassing for the young and the old, indigenous and non-indigenous, new locals and local experts.

By celebrating this historical event in a Celebration of Community, we will bring together the young and the old, indigenous and non-indigenous, new locals & local experts, whilst recording the history of an important destination for Moreton Bay residents and promoting and instilling a sense of pride in the current Beachmere community.
